Defibrilator

We are delighted to announce that our plans to install a defibrillator outside the Cookham Dean Village Hall are agreed. We just now need to get the work done. Watch this space for more information.

Gravity Grand Prix

We had a fantastic warm and dry GGP day in September. We had a big crowd and 30 entrants for the 10th annual running of the event.

We set ourselves a target of taking the money raised for the Air Ambulance since we started the event to over £100,000. We are pleased to announce we have achieved this. We thank the local people of Cookham for their tremendous support.

Gravity Grand Prix - 11th September 2016

We have invited entrants to the 10th annual running of the Gravity Grand Prix.

Its a great free family fun day out. This year we hope that the total funds we have raised, since the event has started, for good cause will exceed £100,000.

The event takes a great deal of organising and always looking for volunteers who can spare any time on the event weekend, even a couple of hours, to help.

All information is available  at gravitygrandprix.co.uk

A Busy Christmas Time

The Kaffirs of Cookham Dean had a great Christmas holding 3 of our traditional events. Many thanks for the fantastic support from the Cookham residents.

Senior Citizens Christmas Party
This year, we entertained 57 guests providing them with refreshments and a variety of acts including a local magician, bell ringers and a singing performance (with audience participation!) from James Donkin. This was followed by the traditional raffle and distribution of Christmas presents by Santa.

Carol Singing
Starting from the Ferry Pub the Kaffirs Choristers visited every pub and restaurant in Cookham and Cookham Dean providing a festive spirit to the evening whilst taking in the festive spirit themselves. The donations were very generous. Thank you to the people of Cookham.

Boxing Day Games
Sometimes you just wonder if we are mad to be up and on the Cookham Dean Village Green at 9am on Boxing Day setting up for a morning of mayhem.  But when teams of over 100 entrants and large crowd gather and have a great time it’s all worthwhile. It’s a tradition started in the early 1990s.

Congratulations to Team Dynamo Five Elms who were victorious wining the overall event on the day and Team Cookham Leaders who won the tug-of-war.

Many thanks to the Maidenhead Advertiser for the support and coverage of the event.

COOKHAM DEAN – BOXING DAY GAMES

The annual Boxing Day Games will be staged this year on Saturday 26 December.  The Games, which start at 10.00 am and last for about 2 hours, will take place on the old cricket common in Cookham Dean.  Organised by local charity fund raisers, the Kaffirs of Cookham Dean, the event will consist of five silly games and a tug-of-war.  The games will conclude with the ever popular obstacle race but the other four are kept secret until the day and changed annually.

Teams consist of eight people and must be mixed with at least two being a different sex from the remainder.  The games are normally supported by upwards of a dozen teams (we have a limit of 16) representing pubs, clubs and groups of local residents.  Entries can only be made on the day and cost just £30 per team.  The winners will take home the prestigious 'loo seat' trophy which carries shields representing the winners over all the years since 1978.  There is a separate ' loo lid' trophy for the tug-of-war. Hot and cold drinks will be available to sustain both competitors and spectators.

Organiser, Peter Austen, commented, "We are looking forward to another exciting and entertaining games fought in their normal highly competitive but not too serious fashion.  The games will go on, whatever the weather!".  If you would like more information give Peter a call on 01628 482201.
